As this year’s Master it is my privilege to welcome you to Laurie Lodge’s homepage. We are a small but vital lodge in Springhill NS, with a long history in the community.
Freemasonry in Springhill predates the incorporation of the town and we are celebrating our 150 th anniversary this year.
For those unfamiliar with our organization Freemasonry is the oldest fraternity in the world dating at least from the formation of the first grand lodge in 1717 but undoubtedly existing long
before that.
Over the years masonry has shaped our history and countless men for the better.
Many of the great scientists, philosophers, musicians and statesmen who created western liberal society were freemasons. Our beliefs in the ennobling effects of science, art and music
combined with brotherly love, equality and morality have attracted men who sought to improve themselves and the world around them.
Our acknowledgement of the supremacy of the great architect of the universe, in whatever form we personally know them, provides a spiritual grounding for our beliefs.
While freemasonry as an organization is not strictly a charity, there are organizations of freemasons such as the Shriners who have worked tirelessly to raise money for the best of causes. Individual lodges may take on projects to help and support their own communities.
If you are interested in learning more about our lodge, please contact any brother who will gladly help you answer any questions you have.
